From Argyll to Kilkerran
Argyll seems to be accepted as the earliest home of the Fergusson Clan. The Fergusons or Clannfhearghuis of Strachur claim to be descendant from the Royal House of Dalriada, that is from the eponymous ancestor Fergus Mor Mac Earca down to the celebrated Kenneth Mac Alpin and subsequent kings of the Siol Mac Alpin.
The Fergusons of Kilkerran descend from a Fergus who held his possessions by a charter granted to him by King Robert I. Sir John Fergusson of Kilkerran was, in 1708, created a baronet. His descendant Sir Charles Fergusson of Kilkerran Bt is the present Chief of our collective Clan. To the left his residence.
The Fergusons of Atholl had charters for their lands from Balliol and King Robert the Bruce. During the 1745 Jacobite Rising the Atholl Fergusons supported Prince Charlie, while the Strachur Clannfhearghuis took the side of the Hanoverians. There are some prominent branches of the Clan Ferguson in Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire, Dumfries and Galloway.
The plant badge of the Strachur branch is Pine, for other branches Poplar or a small Sunflower.
Orange bordered on account of my Dutch birth and proudly flying the Saltire in honor of our Scottish roots, I make this website for all Fergussons - regardless of name, spelling or origins. It's dedicated to all Scots and all Scottish descendants around the world, meaning that in fact it's dedicated to ourselves!
